PROJECT ALPHA

Terrell Middle School Students and their teacher, Mr. J. Lewis, (Alpha Phi Alpha, Life Member) participated in PROJECT ALPHA Teen Pregnancy Retreat (April 26-27, 2019) at Kolomoki State Park. PROJECT ALPHA is a male-to-male teen pregnancy prevention program sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.  On the local level, the program is primarily sponsored by Gamma Omicron Lambda (Alumni Chapter), Delta Delta Chapter (Albany State University), Mu Delta Chapter (Georgia Southwestern State University) and the March of Dimes. This initiative coincides with the fraternity’s national program of GO-TO-HIGH SCHOOL, GO-TO-COLLEGE campaign.

The retreat design focused on teen pregnancy prevention primarily using a holistic (spiritual, academic, physical, legal, physiological, health) model as follows:

FIRST SESSION

Attitude Survey, Retreat Essay Development, Crime Prevention & Drug Prevention

SECOND SESSION

Devotional, Teen Pregnancy Prevention – The Basics, Medical Implications

THIRD SESSION

Legal Implications, Role Play, Physical Activity, Trip to Kolomoki Mounds and Museum

Again, highlights of the retreat included S.T.E.M. (drone programming and maneuvering), visit to Kolomoki Mounds Museum and Burial Grounds, motivational presentation (photo and autographs) with former National Football League (NFL) Player.
